UOB 36th Painting of the Year 2017

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." Edgar Degas

Motion has had the opportunity to work with UOB for its Painting of the Year Awards Ceremony two years in a row.

We had the privilege of producing videos in the form of artful biographies to provide a glimpse of the stories behind the established and emerging artists and their winning artworks.

Held at Victoria Concert Hall, Motion imagined an experience that carefully considered the majesty and heritage of the venue. Working with a projectionist and after experimenting with different textures, Motion worked with a transparent screen mesh that gave the audience an experience of witnessing a mirage – of floating content that softly illuminates the Hall’s organ.

In light of the classic venue, motion conceptualised a show opening Debussy piece performed by acclaimed Singaporean pianist Clarence Lee, where the screen “appeared” and “disappeared” from time to time to follow the movements of the music and the paintings of years past.

After the show, we took over Sinfonia Ristorante to create an art gallery showcasing the winning paintings from 20 winners.
